Colorado Springs

Stops: Kansas City, Topeka

Colorado Springs

After stopping at St. Louis, MO and visiting the St. Louis arch – “The Gateway to the West” we arrive in Colorado. We traveled across the Great American Plains through Missouri and Kansas stopping in Kansas City and Topeka, we arrive in Colorado Springs

Colorado!!

Our first time in Colorado was exciting. After crossing the border from Kansas to Colorado, we soon started to see the landscape change from the plains to the mountains in the distance. As we arrived closer to the city of Colorado Springs, you an only admire the beauty of the majestic Rockies just above the city scape.

Situated at the base of the snow covered Rocky Mountains, Colorado Springs offers a captivating fusion of natural beauty, adventure, and rich historical significance. As the state’s second-largest city, it has a diverse population of local Coloradans, tourists, and a very large military base and Air Force Academy personnel.

Pikes Peak – fresh snow!

We drove up to Pikes Peak on a cloudy day not sure if the roads were open. As it turned out, they were just finishing up clearing up the snow and we were one of the first ones they let up to the peak for the season.

The weather cleared up and the views from atop the mountain was breathtaking. We had a tough time acclimating to the 14500 ft altitude and had shortness of breath just walking around at the top!

After spending a few hours at the peak, we drove down the lovely road down to Garden of the Gods. Oh what a difference in the terrain, geography and the scenery. The rock formations were fascinating and we had a lovely time stopping at different rocks and view points.
